Finding a Cure

Finding a cure for Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma Research and Testing

Being diagnosed with mesothelioma is very much like being given a death sentence. By the time most people discover they have the disease, they learn that they may only have 4 to 18 months left to live. There is no known cure for this disease ... yet. Researchers at various facilities around the world are hard at work on this dilemma. They are running clinical trials and treatment programs with mesothelioma research and testing results that are forging a path towards finding a cure for mesothelioma. Along the way, they are also discovering ways to lessen the severity of the symptoms, as well as, buying the patient some extra time.

One example of the advances made in this research is a procedure called "intracavity heated chemotherapy treatment." After the cancer is surgically removed, the doctors obliterate any residual cancerous cells by applying heated chemotherapeutic agents to the affected area. This technique is proving to be a viable way for prolonging the patients' prognoses. Unfortunately, it can only be used when the disease is caught early enough for surgery to be an option. This is why it is so very important to be examined by a physician experienced in asbestos-related diseases sooner rather than later.

Through private and government funding, research into finding a cure for mesothelioma will continue until, hopefully in the near future, this disease will no longer be known as a guaranteed killer.
