Officials uncover violations re the removal of asbestos at hotel

When a company in Georgia or elsewhere attempts to remove hazardous or harmful materials, it will generally hire someone with experience in the area to prevent unnecessary exposure. Using individuals who lack the required knowledge to remove materials such as asbestos can prove dangerous. A hotel in another state has recently been fined a substantial sum after the owner reportedly hired untrained workers to remove asbestos from the building.

According to reports, officials within the state launched an investigation after learning that the owner was using unqualified workers to remove the material from the hotel. According to officials, the owner had uncovered the presence of asbestos while conducting renovations, and had obtained an estimate from a contractor who was certified in asbestos removal. However, officials claim the owner sought to save money by using workers who were not qualified to perform the task, while failing to notify them of the risks.

During the investigation, officials identified numerous violations, which resulted in a $355,000 fine for the owner. Exposure to asbestos can be extremely toxic, and can lead to a variety of health concerns, such as a potentially deadly form of cancer known as mesothelioma. Individuals who perform asbestos removal must be trained in proper safety and health procedures to reduce the risk of exposure.

Exposure to asbestos can cause a person to suffer in a variety of ways, and could even lead to long-term medical issues. Individuals in Georgia who suffer harm under similar circumstances could consult with an attorney for guidance on the available options with which to pursue restitution. An attorney can examine the situation and assist a client in pursuing the compensation deserved through a claim against the party or parties deemed responsible.
